Substance Abuse Rehab Program

According to the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), studies have shown that the annual cost of substance  abuse to the United States back in 1999 was somewhere around $510.8 billion. This same study also showed that among national estimates for the cost of illness for 33 diseases and conditions that alcohol ranked second, tobacco ranked sixth and drug-related disorders ranked seventh. All of this goes to show just how valuable drug and alcohol relapse prevention can be when discussing substance abuse. Think about how many drug addicts and alcohol addicts seek help for their drug or alcohol addiction but still wind up relapsing back into a life of drug addiction or alcohol addiction. It makes one wonder, “What could've been done differently?” There is a saying that prevention is better than cure, and it's true. Simply going through the motions of a rehab program is not enough. Rather, residents of drug and alcohol rehab programs need to walk out of a program, armed with all of the knowledge and more importantly- the healthy habits and discipline that they will need to live a life of permanent sobriety.

At The Mark Houston Recovery Center, we teach the necessary life skills needed to adapt to a life of sobriety. We also help our residents to develop a healthier ways of eating as well as regular exercise. By doing this, our residents learn how to create energy from the inside out instead of taking it from sources like drugs and alcohol. By entering our program, men from all over the country can begin a new life free from substance abuse.

Substance Addiction

At the Mark Houston Recovery Center, we target substance abuse and substance addiction by helping our residents to develop the life skills that will be necessary for them if they ever hope to live a life characterized by sobriety. The mistake that many recovering drug and alcohol addicts make is that they assume their drug or alcohol problem will magically disappear after they've completed a drug and alcohol rehab program. You see, it isn't always enough to go through a drug and alcohol recovery program or even to just go to a drug and alcohol treatment facility. Rather, the true test is when you go home and are back in the same environment that you were once in before- the one in which it was incredibly easy to abuse drugs and alcohol.

What the Mark Houston Recovery Center does, is we work with our residents on both a group and individual basis to help our residents develop the discipline that they will need in order to resist the temptation to use again. We help them develop vital skills through things such as time management, the 12-steps program, accountability and more in order to help them begin to realize that living without drugs and alcohol IS possible.

What Can be Done to Deter Substance Abuse?

Education can only go so far. Most substance abusers already know what got them into trouble with drug or alcohol addiction to begin with. Therefore, it is important to take what it is that they already know and develop it further into healthy habit as well as healthier ways of thinking so that they will have more control over their actions and decisions in the future not to use drugs or alcohol.

There are reasons that you turned to drugs or alcohol in the first place—it could be to numb the pain experienced in childhood, to feel more confident, or to eliminate stress. In the beginning, what became your addiction was a better option than a particular feeling you were trying to avoid. The process of developing a substance abuse prevention plan starts with identifying the issues you are trying to avoid and dealing with them head-on. At the Mark Houston Recovery Center, we offer our residents a 90-day substance abuse recovery program in which you’ll lay the foundation of your own personal prevention program designed to see you through a lifetime of permanent sobriety.
